Irvine, an AT repair shop owner, has dreams of escaping to a better world with his younger sister Donna. But there is another side to Irvine. He is also The Dark, an expert fighter in the arena of Battling, a sport with illegal gambling. Through the promoter Ishruna, Irvine is contracted to lose in rigged matched against Pagan, who wins the match. When Pagan finds out, his disgrace turns to madness, and he drags Irvine’s normal life and Donna into the fires of war.
