万年補欠（まんねんほけつ）のギアファイター、真理乃コウヤ（まりのこうや）は、地区予選大会（ちくよせんたいかい）の選抜試合（せんばつじあい）に遅刻（ちこく（して、不戦敗（ふせんぱい）を言い渡されてしまう。必死に食い下がるコウヤに、全日本チャンピオン候補の万願寺タケシ（まんがんじたけし）が勝負を持ちかける。万願寺とのハンデマッチに勝ったら代表メンバーに入れてくれるというのだ。
